DR. ALEXANDRE YERSIN – PHYSICIAN & EXPLORER

Alexandre Yersin was a distinguished physician, explorer, and scientist whose discovery of the plague bacillus transformed the course of modern medicine. Yet rather than remaining in Paris at the height of his career, he chose to devote much of his life to Nha Trang, drawn by a profound connection with both the region and the sea.

Along the coast of Nha Trang, Yersin's contributions extended far beyond medicine. He became a pioneer in understanding the maritime environment by establishing one of the region's first meteorological observation stations and an early weather warning system. For Yersin, accurately anticipating the forces of nature was fundamental to protecting lives at sea, creating safer conditions for navigation, and supporting the development of the region's maritime community.

In recognition of his lasting contributions to Nha Trang's maritime heritage, Ana Marina Nha Trang proudly features a statue of Alexandre Yersin within the marina grounds. More than a tribute to an extraordinary individual, it represents the harmony between scientific discovery, maritime safety, and the enduring spirit of exploration that continues to inspire every voyage departing from Ana Marina.
